Looking for routers where I can constrict bandwidth on certain devices

#1SpringerPosted 11/21/2013 7:05:19 PM
What will I be looking for to achieve this?

I like to stream online and I can't stop others from using their computers but I would like to limit their activity to a certain speed.

Is this the correct solution?

Why not ask them...? You say you can't stop other's from using the internet, but involuntarily forcing them off is ok? Your traffic is somehow more important than theirs?

What a scumbag thing to do, not to mention illegal if they help pay the cable bill.

He can't ask them because he's a kid and he's parents will just take away his privileges for being a dumb spoiled child.

Set up static IP's and you can specify both min and max upload speeds for each IP or group of IP's.

So, if you have 1 device you want getting priority you can sets it's IP to have a minimum allotment of bandwidth and then specify that any other IP is capped.

Or set each IP individually if you want a more tiered approach.

You're the parent and paying for the internet but you can't stop your kid from using it?

Nope/10 or you need to re-evaluate your parenting.

I don't want to stop them. I want to limit the bandwidth. That is my fault for not clarifying. My current router is a WRT54GS
