I think I want something to dive into over the long weekend coming up. I don't really care for the story but it seems interesting enough. Any opinions on game play?

Its a very mediocore game. The combat mechanics are not bad though. Its about 15 hours long If I remember right. The story does suck but since you said you don't care. I mean its up to you I guess Though personally I'd say pass.
SRPG games...i just love them!

It's on a free weekend so why not just start playing it and pay the $5 to continue if you like it

Yeah, try it. I didn't like it, and soon uninstalled it.

Assuming you can get the download done fast enough, you should be able to beat the game and see most of the optional content over the weekend if you dedicate 10 hours to it.

Its an incredibly generic game. A shootery shooter game of shooting shooters while they shoot ya back. Its like every recent fps rolled into one bland, featureless blob. Theres no point to it, nothing special about it, story goes nowhere, levels may as well just be flat white hallways full of moving target signs, engine is clearly designed for consoles and looks downright bipolar on PC. Skip it I say.

yes it's a good game. i disagree with anyone saying it's mediocre.. it is GOOD.

it is slightly disappointing because the hype for the game was huge, and it had potential to be a masterpiece in many people's eyes.. but failed to live up to those expectations. the game has obvious flaws, and is not amazing..but it is good and enjoyable.

It's alot, alot like Borderlands, minus the multiplayer co-op. So simply put, if you liked Borderlands and Fallout with the sort of wasteland setting, then you might enjoy this game.
Only problem I had with it was how scarce ammo tended to be. I had to resort to headshotting everyone or bashing with the fists just to conserve ammo

Yeah it's a pretty good game. I never completed it though.

The shooting mechanics against the mutants is fun. Also the abandoned city is pretty cool to see.

If you're an ATI user, then there's one setting that you have to turn off otherwise the game runs horribly. Something to do with textures but I can't remember.

I can run it with every setting including AA maxed out except for that one, which causes it to stutter a lot even when everything else is on the lowest setting.

For the price it's worth checking out.

And I agree that the game was destroyed by hype. It's id Software's fault for this mostly though.
