Once you actually have an idea of what you need to do, it gets to be a lot more fun.

Do not play Dota2 without prior knowledge of how to play Dota2. You will not enjoy it.

My own experience with that game has been horrible over time.

I got sucked into it after sticking with it for a few hours and finding a few characters I liked.

When I finally hit level 20 and started to get into competitive play things got interesting for a while.

In the end, I quit playing, and had spent a lot more than I'd spend on a regular game from buying characters and other crap they put up.

There are entirely too many well organized teams in the game these days, finding a new group of players that wants to build a team - and putting in the time to build the skills up to be competitive is almost impossible.

You've got better luck being a server first beating a brand new heroic raid on WoW if you start building a character at the beginning of a new expansion, in my opinion, both are equally challenging and both come with the frustrations of relying on other people to show up and do their part.

This is why Dota2 is so much better than LoL. There is no progression system and there is a solo queue only mode so that there are no parties playing with or against you. The only issue is that you start off in low MMR where there are a lot of Russians/Chinese/Brazilians. which can make communication difficult.

The only good thing about it is that as long as you don't know some of the common Portuguese/Russian/Spanish words then you won't be discouraged.

Also, I like to point out that having all of the characters unlocked from the get go is a great feature. The Tutorial is also apparently really good (But I've been playing since before the Tutorial so I've never experienced it).

I did OK... watching a few videos and reading a bit, then picking a relatively easy starter hero and playing vs. passive bots. Even with that, it takes a bit to really learn the game much, but it's doable.

The mechanics are just different if you're not familiar with Dota-likes (specifically Smite-DotA-Dota2-LoL-HoN). All of those games basically have the same general gameflow, just with slightly different mechanics.

I wouldn't bother with neither MOBA. I've spent my fair share of time on LoL and I can say it's kinda a time sink. It's not that fun anymore and I only play cuz I know how to do well but yeah. Too many high school kids online who think they're the best player ever when their team beats yours.
