Need help getting 4 monitors to run on a single R9 290X

#1Paco223Posted 11/24/2013 7:40:44 AM
I was able to run a 3 + 1 accessory display setup on my 660Ti without any problems using 2x DVI, 1x HDMI and 1x HDMI to Display Port (passive adapter)

I'm now trying the same setup with my new R9 290X because it has the same ports at the back but I can only get up to 3 monitors working. When I try to extend desktop to the 4th monitor (the one using HDMI to passive Display Port) it only says "unable to save display settings"

How can I get 4 screens to work on a single R9 290X?
Thank you so much in advance.

Multimonitor support has never been AMD's strong point, despite their heavy marketing campaign for Eyefinity.

I have nothing helpful to say, other than that you might have wanted to stick with Nvidia for such a setup.

I find it incredibly disappointing that my new $600 card can't do what my old 660 Ti can

I found others with similar problems, looks like you need an active adapter not passive

Probably this, but also, TC, do you have Eyefinity enabled?

EDIT: I'm confused. Are you or are you not using the DisplayPort on the 290X? Because, obviously, you have to. What connections on the graphics card are you using, TC?

I'm running eyefinity right now across three screens only. I can't do more than three in both eyefinity and extended desktop mode :(

I'm using all four on the back of the card but I still can't get it to work

Monitor 1 - DVI
Monitor 2 - DVI
Monitor 3 - HDMI
HDTV - HDMI plugged into Display Port using a passive Display Port adapter

the R9 series allows eyefinity without the use of an active display adapter, just like what nVidia does. I thought it would work the same way for the fourth monitor. I guess i'll have to buy an active adapter and try it out.
