Getting a laptop for my niece

#1yutterhPosted 11/26/2013 2:59:11 AM(edited)
I'm planning on getting her a laptop for doing really good in school and so she will have something when she goes off to college. She isn't a very big gamer but I don't want her to have a crud laptop that is slower then syrup. here are my three choices that im thinking of getting. They are all on sale on thanksgiving day.

Lenovo - G500 15.6" Laptop - Sale price $399

HP - ENVY 15.6" Laptop - Sale price $499

HP - Split 2-in-1 13.3" Touch-Screen Laptop $499

Now having a CD drive isn't that big of a deal since they can be bought pretty cheaply. I like the envy just because if need be she can add in more memory and it comes with a greater amount. Also I don't really know Lenovo but their laptop does seem pretty steller. Another reason I like the envy, is because of the touch screen. Is the $100 extra worth the memory and touch screen? The 2in1 is there mainly for the solid state drive and she can use it as a tablet. So out of these 3 which one should I get? I wanted to surprise her on Christmas day so I don't want to ask which one she wants. What do you all think?

EDIT: lol don't know why I thought the envy had a touch screen it doesn't.

IMO the 1st one. I don't think a touch screen is really worth it and the extra ram certainly won't help her.

The HP ENVY sounds like a good one for the price. Go with that one.

Whatever you do, make sure its lightweight. An ssd would be good too. That's what I'm looking for this Friday, as a college student. Also, this laptop, in all likelihood, will not improve her grades.

Edit-Sorry, just realized it's a reward, not a magic GPA boost

Well im not looking to improve her grades just so she has something only she can use. She already gets A's and spends like 12 hours at school studying and being a teachers aid. She is like super into school. So I want to get her something nice for doing really great in school. Also im a idiot and miss read the envy having a touch screen. Probably scanned over the touch screen next to it on the ad. Thanks for the input :) it really helps.
