So far I haven't really seen any sales going on it, and haven't heard of any for black Friday. Do you guys think it would be a terrible idea to just go ahead and buy one now?
I'm not really sure if new cards like this one usually go on sale during the holidays. Or, is there maybe a better option of similar performance that I would be more likely to find cheaper?

Also should add that I am limited to Amazon, since I have $200 of gift balance with them.

It's probably not going to drop in price. Just be aware that the R9 cards run pretty damn hot. They're designed to run at 90 degrees Celsius, which won't hurt the card, but will be blowing awfully hot air on your other components.

Seeings as it's still new I highly doubt it will go on sale. You may as well wait and see though since black friday and cyber monday are right around the corner. The 280x is sweet though, I picked up the asus dc ii model last week :)

This is the rebranded 7970, not the new cards.

This is the one I'm looking at.
I guess it does make sense to just wait until Monday and see if I can catch anything.

I doubt you'll see much, if any, of a sale on the R9 cards since they are band spanking new.
There is no reason not to wait and see as the prices sure aren't going to go up and you'll only have a hand full of days to wait to find out.

My 280x doesn't run very hot and I oc'd higher than the factory overclock. Far cry 3 maxed at 1080p runs around 68C. And msi kombustor doesn't push past 76C with 8x aa 1080p.

The guy was thinking of the 290/x cards, not the rebrands. All that being said you will probably be better off looking for a 7950/70 as they are the exact same thing and it's likely lots of places will be trying to clear out their current lots.

the only thing this one has going for it is that only xfx and sapphire are giving BF4 with the 280X. otherwise, the MSI gaming and Asus DC2T versions are the best ones to choose from. very cool and quiet running cards. from what I hear from owners of this model, xfx made a dumb design on this and the shroud gets in the way of most crossfire connectors, so if you ever think of dual 280X's consider that possible inconvenience..

It would be idiotic to not wait to see the sales.
