Personally at 400 and 500 dollars consoles are a rip off. I can way more functionality out of a 650$ desktop than I can spending on a 500 dollar console that does nothing but play games and allow me to watch Netflix... which you can do by cheaper methods.

Well, the Steambox will be priced @ $499.99 and it's supposed to be on par with the consoles.

Which steambox?

The beta ones, there are some that are much, much more powerful than consoles. Some are only on par. And when manufacturers start making them there will be tons of different variations at different prices.

My opinion is that you shouldn't use an Nvidia card for budget builds like these. Throw in a 7870/7950 or a lower end R9 series card instead of the 660 and save 50 bucks for pretty much the same power.

The only one that has actually been announced and the specs shown. It's $500.00 and has a tablet cpu like the xbox and ps4 and the gpu is a r9 270. Unfortunately, it's made by IBUYPOWER.

if you don't use an nvidia card, you don't get shadowplay, which is basically like what ps4 and xbox one have

Shadowplay is a good point, but so is mantle if that pans out. A 2gb 650ti boost (or even just ti, they're the same gpu but the boost has the same memory interface as a 660, the 650ti's is a pretty limiting factor at 1080p) would be closer to the PS4's power though, or a 7850 on the AMD side.
