The Last Remnant - has anybody played this? Did you like it?

I'm not a "JRPG" fan; the only Final Fantasy game I've played and liked is Final Fantasy 5 as part of a annual event last summer.

One of my friends, who is a big Final Fantasy fan, started telling me about The Last Remnant. He was complaining that he bought it on Steam and was disappointing because it seemed more like a strategy game than a Final Fantasy game. He said you basically just order units of soldiers to attack units of enemies, and they'll use whatever attacks their AI tells them to.

Ironically, that sounded a lot more appealing than a Final Fantasy game to me. I looked up some reviews of the game and saw it got fairly mediocre reviews, but like my friend, they seemed to just compare it to Final Fantasy or the XBox version.

I'm currently downloading the demo, but curious what PC gamers' reactions are to this game.

It could've been amazing, but it's just mediocre, since they messed some stuff up.

What exactly did they mess up? I've been a bit interested in it myself.

You mean you didn't sacrifice your 4 star Bulbasaur with 16
level up counters in order to Special Summon a 6 star Ivysaur?

It's possible to make the game very hard to impossible, by improperly battling.

I really enjoyed it but I am definitely in the minority, most people hated it.

I disliked the plot, the characters, AND the gameplay.

The gameplay, in particular, is a bit of a mess. You could tell they had some good ideas, but had no idea how to implement them. It's way too easy for any given battle to turn into little more than a sequence of WTFs - even if you completely understand what's going on and plan meticulously.

But the music is pretty good, though, so there's that.

Only true in Xbox 360 version. PC version fixed this.

Ah, my experiences are from the 360 version. That's good to hear though. I would love a sequel that fixed up and built off the first.

I like it looks good, characters are not bad, story is so so
Its flashy with good special attacks.Worth it if you get it cheap,Steam always discount it in big sales

I enjoyed it because of the graphics and massive battles in the game. JRPG's besides the Final Fantasy 13 games have been pretty weak graphically compared to everything else in the time frame they are coming out.

The story is good if you understand everything but as with any jrpg it's easy to tune out and not get all of the plot.
