I am thinking about getting Borderlands 2 GOTY edition but my friends got standard ones. Can we still play coop? What will be the difference? Can I still trade GOTY edition items with them?

Is it really worth getting GOTY edition?
Thanks

This. AFAIK, the game also has compatibility patches, so you should be able to use any items or content you get from add-ons in their games, though I don't think you'll be able to give them any of those items.

Wait a bit and keep and eye on GreenManGaming, Amazon, or GetGames.

Borderlands 2 stuff goes on sale pretty damn often and I expect it will again when the new Headhunter pack is release around Christmas...I'm pretty sure it's going to be around Christmas and Christmas themed since they were making 3 of them and having them holiday themed (Halloween and Thanksgiving).

Anyway, point is you should be able to catch BL2 plus the 4 main DLC, plus a few others for around $20.

They can pick up the DLC items but they can't use/equip them until they've visited the area the item is from. This is true even if they own the DLC. I think you can just tick a checkbox with Gibbed for each area that will let you use them but I'm not actually sure since none of the DLC gear is really worth using over vanilla legendaries, not to mention I have had the season pass since launch.

Some of the DLC gear is absolutely worth using over vanilla legendaries. The Pimpernel is probably the most broken weapon in the game, for example.
