Why does the Bitcoin acquisition method have to be so wasteful and un-environmental? I like the idea of digital currency but why does all the electricity need to be wasted? Most people would probably feel pretty guilty if they leave the tap running when they get out of the house etc. The only way to get them is to convert electricity to wasted heat (unless it's winter and you would need warming anyway), I guess that gives them value and scarcity but it is still dumb.

Well the 7000 series is discontinued and the R9 290 and 290x are very popular still. Just give it a few more weeks and you should find them more easily. I don't know about this whole bitcoin thing but I've heard AMD gpu's work best for mining them. I guess that's what you were on about in the OP.

That's what I'm wondering. My suspicion is that all these people jumping on the Bitcoin bandwagon are reading outdated guides telling them that the HD 7000 series cards are great for Bitcoin mining so they buy them on Ebay without realizing that the R9 series is the same thing.
