7950/7970/290 sold out everywhere, 7950 selling on ebay $400-$500 BITCOIN explod

If the market remained this high on bitcoin, cloud mining would be a good investment. As is though, it's like throwing money at the betting booth of a horse race.

Is solo mining back to being profitable again?

That's what I'm wondering. My suspicion is that all these people jumping on the Bitcoin bandwagon are reading outdated guides telling them that the HD 7000 series cards are great for Bitcoin mining so they buy them on Ebay without realizing that the R9 series is the same thing.

To be fair only the R9 270 and 270x are rebranded 7000 series GPU's. The 280, 280x, 290 and 290x are the only ones that use the new Hawaii tech. Why they branded those 2 GPU's the way they did is another mystery though.

The 280x is just a 7970.

I dont see the point in selling my 7950 just to buy a comprable video card. Or am I missing something here?!

1. Sell your 7950 for more than what you paid for it.
2. Wait for the market to stabilize
3. Buy a new 7950 for less than what you sold it for or a better card for the same price.

From what I have read, it seems that people don't want these for Bitcoin mining, but for competing cryptocurrencies like litecoin. These haven't become difficult to mine yet, so graphics cards are still usable for mining. You pretty much need an ASIC card to get anything worthwhile from Bitcoins.

Yes, that is what I meant, Litecoin. Most people don't know the technical stuff though so I just made it easy.

Overall, bitcoin miners are buying $10 grand machine called ASIC miners made from companies like Butterfly Labs. (They are backordered on all orders over at Butterfly Labs for over a year, lol)

Butterfly should have raised their prices, man, they are set for life. :)

I am surprised a company like Nvidia has not built an ASIC mining card and sold it for 7 grand like Butterfly Labs is doing. They already have contracts with the factories that make this pcb's etc

Might be a good time for me to unload my golden 7950. I might even be able to make a profit.

it's better put to use mining litecoins. the only way to make a profit off bitcoin now is with ASIC.
