Looking for a laptop that can run Skyrim..

#1Solar1214Posted 12/5/2013 12:13:03 AM
My dad's laptop crapped out so he's looking for a new one. He also wants to try out Skyrim, as well as some other games.

Anyone got a link to a good enough laptop?
The cheaper, the better.

You need a core i3. That should run everything at a minimum-medium settings. No big mods of course. To play things better you'll need a quad-core (core i5 @ 2.5ghz is the recommended one) and you'll want a graphics card (nvidia 630m for me).

Students get discounts from HP.com and you can customize a laptop to your price, and needs. Be warned it's all made up in China, and sent from their. Returning stuff goes to California where they have specialists though.

630m is a multimedia card not a gaming card. It will technically run skyrim but on super low settings.

I have a GT635m with a I5 3210m and I can run skyrim on high without any mods completely possible with a 630m at 720p.

I didn't even consider 720p. I haven't played anything in that resolution since like 2008. I didn't think people could even settle for that. You're right technically i guess. I just don't consider anything at 720p as high settings.

I would love to build my own gaming computer and play at 1080p or higher, but have to make do with what you have until you can upgrade.

I was talking about laptops. The last 3 I bought all had 1080p displays.

This is the most inexpensive brand new laptop I can find with a GDDR5 card. You definitely do not want DDR3 cards, the 740/750M is pathetic

http://www.xoticpc.com/msi-ge60-2od247us-p-6361.html

Price is $999 with everything including OS

and no, do not buy a refurb or you're bound to find a dead pixel

I have a 750m GDDR5 2gb in my laptop... It's not enthusiast level but I certainly wouldn't consider it pathetic. It gets me 45-60 fps in Skyrim on all high settings at 1080p
