How do you add mods to games like Dark Souls?

Beware, adding too many, or too intensive of texture mods, can cause the game to have some stutters/loading in some areas. No, it's not my computer that causes it, 3570K@4.4ghz, GTX670, 12GB RAM, even installed the game on SSD.

True. This is a known issue. Mods that use .DDS instead of .PNG don't have this problem as much, but it's still an issue when there are too many being loaded.

I do like the start screen for the 'press windows key, type in the name of the program, setting or file you are looking for and it display it in a nice list' thing.

That's been a thing since Vista, and most of the improvements came with 7. The best part is it works with Classic Shell (and I'm assuming other start menu replacers) in 8/8.1.

Actually, it more than likely is your computer. Putting a ton of texture mods in Dark Souls seems to really strain the GPU, especially if you have a lot of the DSFix features enabled. I even get some (minor) slow down on my 4770k, GTX 780 and 16GB RAM with the game installed on SSD. The worst is whenever I equip the hi-res claymore, but I still notice it a bit in areas like Blight Town and Lost Izalith.

You're mistaken. I don't get slowdown. My framerate is solid, but I get some stutters/loading. Most memorable is when fast traveling to that fire where Quelagg's sister is (can't remember the name). My game will pause for like 2-3 seconds.

Also, I remember having issues with pausing during a fight with Seethe the Scaleless. I would have died for sure, but my friends were there helping me.

Again, it's not framerate, it's pausing. It also says in the DSfix.ini that enabling the texture overwrite feature can cause that.
