Anybody here know about laptop CPU sockets?

I'm looking at a Clevo W110ER with an i3-2350M installed. I know later versions of the laptop offered a i7-3612QM - with GPU and everything else being identical.

That being said, would I be able to buy the 3612QM separately and install it myself, or would there have been a change in socket/motherboard between the two laptop CPU's? I can't find much reliable info, since I've seen some places mention different sockets, while others mentioned same sockets and therefore the it would be a possibility.

And obviously the better solution would be to buy one with said CPU installed, but the laptop is hard to come by.

Don't bother. The power and cooling systems in laptops are usually tightly regulated, and only designed to power the parts it comes with. If you put something faster in, it's likely you'll overload something.

Both processors share the same TDP, and that laptop has come with one 10 W higher as well, so I don't think that would be an issue.

I'd say go for it.

Console peasants don't know what they are missing out on. There is simply no reason albeit cost (which is debatable) that one should not be playing on PC.

You'll be fine with any Intel 3xxxQM. Avadirect was probably out of a few when they archived the page.
