do all tv's with HDMI allow laptop output by default?

I am trying to get my laptop to output hdmi onto the tv.

It connects and the computer makes a "connected" noise but nothing comes on the screen.

It works fine with my much bigger tv though.

When I click playback devices it shows that audio is playing under the tv, but i can't hear or see anything on the screen....

Did you press Source/Input on your TV?

It doesn't work. I am using the HDMI input selector on my tv.

It works for my ps3....
