Do you think 30Mhz makes a hell of a lot of difference?

No, it's pretty minor. But his choice is better because of the cooler.

I don't really want my card blowing hot air into the case, I'd rather have it exhause out the back.

Even if it really did make a difference, you could just bump up the clocks on the slower card.
