Lol people thinking this controller will actually be any good just because Valve made it.

I got an email. From Dell. So, it's really the opposite of what I'd have wanted.

Looks like Steam might be getting a reskin sometime soon, too. The mobile version just got overhauled.

I'm not expecting it to be good just because Valve made it... I'm expecting it to be good because everything I've heard about it from people who have actually used it (and are picky about controllers) suggests it's going to be good. I mainly want one to see how well it works with my game library and how hard it is to set up for various game configs...

I was skeptical about the idea of a controller being able to handle certain genres, and I probably still wouldn't want to use it for FPS, but it might just work out for everything else.

It'll be good because it'll let us play more games on a couch on a big screen.

360 controller is nice and all. I use it for quite a few games. But Strategy games just aren't possible with it without being severely dumbed down. And lol at analogue sticks in shooters.

Steam controller will be great for a lot of games that at the moment just can't be done with traditional controllers :)

I'm pretty sure the new look was just so it could match the flat design Apple is going with. I wouldn't expect a new look for desktops or the website.

Yet it will still be (just like current controllers) garbage in comparison to playing an FPS or an RTS on a keyboard & mouse.

Don't kid yourself, you are not gonna be able to play against people using keyboards competitively.

Nope, But I'll be able to play games like Civ 5, CK2, Total War and Age of Empires on my couch. And that's more than worth it for me.

I'll still be at my PC for DOTA 2, Starcraft 2 and Counterstrike. And I'm ok with that. Some games are just too complex and require too much precision to work on anything but mouse and keyboard, and I'm ok with that.

Playing RTS on a huge tv is horrible especially with the input lag, I mean even using the mouse its hard.

Do people who assume all strategy games are RTS play any strategy games at all?

Like I said, it would be great for games like Civilization, or crusader kings, or fallen enchantress. Not to mention single player fps or stealth games or classic RPGs, or really any game that isn't extremely competitive will work great with the steam controller.
