New hard drive, Is this normal?

Um, I have two 1 TB Blues and they both spin down after extended periods of not being in use. Spinning up takes less than a second when I access the drive in Explorer.

edit: Just read the bit about the drives not actually stopping spinning. Is that actually a problem people are having?

Using this guide, I made the win98 bootable usb, when I click on it to see if any files were added, there aren't [ appearently to the bootable usb tutorial, I'm supposed to have 3 ] anyways, went through with dropping in the wdidle3 and the pc loads up dos, I type in the command and it just says ad command or file name

bootable usb tutorial: http://www.bay-wolf.com/usbmemstick.htm

Any tips?

The files you're meant to be seeing as in that tutorial are set as hidden, so make sure you're displaying hidden files (which can be changed in folder options).

Just to make sure, are you typing in the commands minus the "example" quotation marks?

Also make sure that wdidle3 is in the root directory, or you'll have to navigate to wherever it is.

Do check that your specific model is what this tool was intended for.

Problem was I was typing WDIDLE.exe instead of WDIDLE3.exe, since that's how it was written in the tutorial. According to WDidle the timer is off, I think the problem is the hard drive is giving out vibrations through the case, what are some hard drive dampening I can do? It's on hdd sliders so I'm stumped on what to do.

Bumpage, going to put foam inbetween the sliders and see if that helps.
