Actually it kind of proves his point, and is likely why you were bored.

Not entirely. If you lack the skill to play a game, or a drive to play it, you're going to get bored. Hence, I got bored of Dark Souls quickly, because I both lacked the "skill" and lacked a reason to bother with it. Because TC got it for free, they have no investment. To them, it's like playing with a stick. They got it for free, so why bother with the complexities.

Or, and here's a wild thought, Gamebryo games like the new fallouts and elder scrolls are really easy to entertain someone with a short attention span cause you can just go run around in a field, kill a thing, do a quest, take a swim, learn some spells, go in a cave, go to another field, climb a mountain, kill another thing.... you get where I'm going? Whereas fallout 1 and 2, while not linear, still have much less freedom and variety as the new fallouts

I could never get into fallout 1 either. The world felt empty and dead. The combat sucked. The characters were boring. The whole thing was made using shades of brown. The story was uninteresting. Maybe if I played it when it was new or I had some nostalgia for it, But I played it for the first time a few years ago and I was massively underwhelmed.

Fallout 2 is better but it's more the same.

I tried to like the game also, but the game gives you no reason to care about the world you are in.
