Which mods for Oblivion GoTY will make it compete with vanilla Skyrim?

A lot of people will shun me for suggesting it, but I just slapped on OOO, and the +5 every level mod and called it a day.

Of course, there was smaller mods like natural weather and such that helped too.

I am going to have to check Oblivion out again. Stats per level depending on Major Skill use was the number one reason I stopped playing that game. It just adds to the tedium and forces you to take notes instead of just being able to enjoy the game.

Yep. Got sick of it after 5 minutes when I first played it and went and found a mod for that.

I'll check those out. Which one do you guys recommend for graphic or texture upgrades? Looking to keep it lore friendly but at the same trying to make it look very nice.

Haven't tried em out myself yet, but i here Qarl's Texture pack 3+Unique Landscapes look great together.

FCOM, a crapload of NPC appearance overhauls, some high-res textures, and maybe a few shaders. Unique Landscapes is also awesome.
Here's a decent guide:

I like Oblivion more than Skyrim. It's closer to Morrowind, with potential to be close to Skyrim in terms of graphics and simplified gameplay. Also, shadows and saves aren't as broken in Oblivion as they are in Skyrim. Skyrim's flickery, static shadows were a shame. If you circle around someone while holding a torch during the night in both games, you'll see a big difference.
