At a meeting of 500 directors and above, [Steve Ballmer] talked about Windows 8 and its failures. In another, he spoke of creating gamer-focused PCs, as if he had years to go in his tenure. In another, he apparently cried at the prospect that there would be no more years.

They had their chance with Windows Live and they utterly destroyed any kind of consumer confidence in their ability to offer a gamer-focused platform at every single turn.

PC Gamers are more leery of Microsoft than ever, the casual market is console and mobile-focused, and I'm pretty sure that the XBox division has been losing money for a while....trying to offer more hardware would be suicidal. I don't see it happening.

Honestly, I see this as a reaction to the oncoming threat of Valve.
I mean, look at it. If Valve plays their cards right, they have the chance to steal Microsoft's throne in every place where it matters: operating systems in PCs, and consoles in...consoles. If Microsoft is reduced to "that company that makes Office"...and Valve is going to do that. MS obviously sees that and wants to put up a fight.

Of course, after the complete catastrophe of GFWL, that isn't going to happen.

Just release your god damn 1st party games on PC consistently and build up some equity back with the pc gaming community.

Releasing Halo/Forza/Gears of War/Dead Rising on PC isn't going to freaking destroy your Xbox sales.

This article is so poorly written, it seems to be satire. If it is satire, it's poorly written for even that.

Hopefully this means Microsoft will actually care about PC gaming again but that's too much to expect from them.
