Need help with Capture cards

#1Kaoshi_SanPosted 12/16/2013 5:21:01 PM
I've been thinking of making videos for a while & now that Sengoku Basara 4(one of my favorite game series) is close to release, I though it be a good chance to start.

I don't know much about video capturing, but I'd like one that can record in 720/1080p, I've heard 60fps seconds isn't possible? (or maybe that's because of Youtube 30fps) anyway, I mostly play PS3, i was getting the AVerMedia C985 Live Gamer HD 1080p like a year ago, but people kept saying the ps3 has some kind of protection so I ended up being confused and ended up not getting it.

So what's a good choice? should I go with an internal card or external? is there any plus or down between the two? does my specs matter if it's internal? anything else I should know?

I don't know much about capture cards, but Youtube doesn't do 60FPS so there's no point in recording 60FPS. Also most PS3 games don't run at 60 so again it's not possible. Similarly most Ps3 don't run in actual 1080p so recording that would just be increasing file sizes with minimal game.

But if you plan on getting a PS4 then I guess it'd be worth it to track down one that does 1080p

Yeah, also most people don't have the internet speed to steam 1080p videos from Youtube, and those that do probably don't even use it because it looks like crap on Youtube.
I'd say just get a 720p30 capture card and save the cash.

I'm just trying to be future proof in case someone does make a website in the near future that can do 60fps and better quality than Youtube, about the quality and slow internet, people can always select what resolution they want to play it on.

Use Elgato. It's like $150 on Amazon, and it's one of the best. Records PS3 and Xbox 360, recently had an update to support Xbox One and will almost certaily get one for PS4 in the near future. It makes videos damn fast, you can do some editing to them with Elgato itself, albeit minor. It records from the console's output itself, so even if it looks like it's lagging on your computer, the actual video won't be lagging at all no matter how good the quality. Though other capture cards may work the same, this is the only one I use and the only one I intend to use for the rest of my life.

It can also stream to Youtube, Twitch, and I think uStream and maybe something else. You can set up a mic for commentary with it as well, though I personalyl haven't tried it. It's got functions to save videos in 720p and 1080p and share to like Facebook and Twitter and other stuff.

I'm sure there's an indepth review of it somewhere out there, probably on Amazon. I highly recommend getting it.

It's what I use to record, and you can check to see the quality and how it'll look on youtube here. Even have some SB3 videos on there.

Thanks for the reply Xaldin! Someone recomended me the Avermedia C875 LGP on another forum, but watched a few reviews on Youtube and Avermedia launched this one which many say is the best external capture card now?

Reading a bit on it, if not I'll simply go with one of the other two.
