Best way to steam sale efficiently?

#1EmeraldroxPosted 12/19/2013 2:27:02 PM
Okay, so I got 40$ for steam and this is my first sale I've actually had money for. There's a number of games I want (relatively old) and I'm worried to buy because they might go cheaper, but they're already discounted.

Some of the games in question are
Lego Batman 2
Arkham Origins season pass
Devil May Cry 4
DMC
Castle Crashers
Oblivion

Also, will their discounts change at all? Like are they only for tonight?

Wait for Daily Deals or Flash sales, those will be the lowest prices.

Amazon has some good deals too.

I swear we should get the Steam sale rules stickied. :P

1) Put every game you want on your wishlist.
2) If a game you want shows up as a Daily Deal, Flash Deal, or Community Choice, feel free to get it if you like the price. It might go lower, but it's extremely unlikely.
3) Don't buy any games that are not one of the three categories above until the last day of the sale.
4) On the last day, go ahead and get anything you want that didn't hit one of the extra discount categories. It probably won't go any lower.

EDIT: Reminded by an above post - don't focus *just* on Steam. Other sites have good sales too, and some of them might have better prices than Steam does. Watch other places too, like Amazon or GreenManGaming.

Don't buy anything unless it's a flash sale or daily deal. If you miss a flash or daily sale, don't buy it, wait; it may pop up again on another day or the last day. Dev packs generally won't go any lower, so they're safe to buy at any time if you want one of them.

numerous other sites have sales too and might have the games you want in question at a better discount and since most of them offer steam keys(game by game basis), you're not losing out on anything.

you can keep track of sales with:
steamgamesales.com
cheapshark.com

one of the most popular alternatives to steam is amazon.com and they've also just started their winter sale.

If they are a daily deal (one of the 9 main sales), that's almost guaranteed to be the lowest price those games will get unless there is an error in the future.

If they are a flash sale, its pretty unlikely that they will go any lower but there have been instances I believe where they have popped on a daily for a little less.

Community sales are generally at the same rate as the flash sales so while its unlikely to go lower its still possible.

The sale will go on until January 1st (it says Jan. 2nd but its usually off sale after 10 am pst that day). If the game you want is on a daily / community / flash sale, buy it. If not, wait until December 1st to buy it.

When you go to the game's store page, under the sale price it will tell you how long the sale will last, if it says January 2nd, wait for a daily / community / flash sale and if it doesn't pop for those, then buy it January 1st. If it says under 8 hours / under 48 hours, then it is a daily / community / flash sale and will probably it's cheapest this sale.

You can do the DV8 method and buy things full price 12 hours before they go on sale.

Or the "half the users on Steam" method of buying Jade Empire on the last day, only to have it show up as a standard daily deal for $2 cheaper the very next day after the big sale ends. That one upset more than a few people. heh
