How do I network two computers over LAN to share files?

#1jelly2008Posted 12/19/2013 11:58:05 PM
I've got a Win 8.1 desktop and a Win 7 laptop. Wanna share files between the two computers. How do I network them using a regular Ethernet cable for connection?

Uh, will Homegroups allow remote access to a system's drive from another system?

depends how big of the files you wanting to transfer, small amounts I would say use dropbox or a flash drive. Large amounts an external harddrive.

Get a router and go wireless. Just rightclick any folder and choose to share with other devices in your network, and you can access anything they have in them. Takes about 15 seconds to do.

You can also use a crossover ethernet cable between the two PCs. Though the wireless option is the one people use nowadays, it is equally easy to set up, does not require you to pull a wire from one to the other pc, and it allows you to share with all devices, like your media player, tablet or smartphone.
