Is this level of IPS glow (or backlight bleeding...?) normal?

#1kingoffpsPosted 12/20/2013 1:05:12 AM
My newly bought monitor had its power supply explode. After a lengthy and annoying RMA process I finally got another one. But I've noticed that there is quite a severe problem with IPS glow, or backlight bleeding (I'm not experienced enough to know the difference).

Putting Dynamic Contrast Ratio on alleviates the problem a bit, but some forum posts that I've found suggest that purists don't like DCR and it hampers picture quality. Is this right?

In some pics it looks worse than in others:

If this is normal then I will learn to live with it as I'm tired of dealing with returns now :( But if it's definitely seriously defective then I will RMA it. I think I can kind of ignore it 90% of the time but I noticed it a fair bit during the sandstorm level of MW3. I get the feeling that any kind of dark game like Metro will be spoiled big time.

Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to read this. I really appreciate it.

Make and model?

Looks like mine but mine's cheap korean so I expect it.

It's just a cheap one too, but not from a Korean seller.

DGM IPS-2701WPH is the model. I had one of their 1080p monitors for years without problems so I thought why not?....

I'm struggling to decide what to do. I think I'm focusing on it too much and it's bothering me more than it otherwise might.

Gah. To RMA or not to RMA.....

27" is small? I thought it was big :(

Also. I seem to have somehow alleviated the problem by loosening the monitor screws and massaging the screen for a while.

I normally play with a 50" monitor 2 feet from my face.

I have to change the FOV to like 180 degrees but it's worth it.

IPS monitors tend to have more backlight bleed than other monitors.
