So I want to use my dead PS3's harddrive for my laptop.

I installed it myself so removing it should be no problem, but I'm having trouble finding a case for it.

I'm reading that something like that is not a permanent solution because it has no fan and will therefore shorten the lifespan of the HDD. Is this true? If so, what's an expensive case for that size with a cooling mechanism?

This is what I got for my old 60 GiB PS3 HDD.

It works fine for what I want it to do (a simple external storage drive).

It was cheap, and it worked better than a more expensive solution from Eagle.

Thank you, but that's more or less what I linked to and was asking about.

Is the lack of a fan going to be a problem for longevity?

It should be fine, those 5,400 RPM drives don't generate enough heat that warrents active cooling.

As long as your enclosure is made of Aluminum, it'll disipate the heat just fine.

Most hard drives don't require fans.

Thanks, it was just something I read in a random Amazon review for one of those enclosures and just wanted to fact-check.
