How to deal with motion sickness when gaming?

#1MrMonkhousePosted 12/20/2013 12:24:51 PM
I play a lot of FPS games, but when playing Fallout 3 about a few hours in I start feeling that motion sickness and I can't enjoy the game anymore. Tips on fixing this?

Well beyond acknowledging that you should just stop playing when you start to feel like that....I'm not sure what else can be said.

Try increasing the field of view or sitting farther away from the screen. The second option would probably be better since sitting close to the screen isn't very good anyway.

I have this problem on some games, and it's almost always FOV related. It's not so much motion sickness as just a blistering headache but it will usually lead to me getting sick to my stomach if I keep trying to play. Sanctum 2 completely destroyed me and my friends no matter what FoV I use, and some games like Half Life 2 are the same. I don't really have any advice besides try to make the FOV higher but on some games I just can't play them

I never thought of the FOV option before. What should the value be for Fallout 3?

I also dont experience motion sickness with other games like BF4.

Well its a good thing I have the PC versions of these games where the FOV can be adjusted on the console. I also hear people having trouble with HL2 and Portal which I am planning to get once they go on the steam sales.

65 vertical should be decent.
We should take away their metal boxes!

How's your frame rate? Inconsistent frame rates can make me slightly queasy.

Not to hijack topic but what's the best way to play through New Vegas? Like what mods should you have for a fresh playthrough? I messed up my previous game with adding bad mods that kinda ruined things for me.
