Are there issues with Monster 8-outlet surge protectors?

My mum just came home with that one to possibly replace one we already have. The old one doesn't even seem to have a brand on it; we've been using it for, I dunno, around 15 years or so. Is there a better alternative for maybe not $100? Or is this Monster thing actually worth the price?

Depends of course on how big the connectors that will be plugging into it are, however it's pretty hard to beat this bad boy for pure protection:

Not sure how expensive it'll be in Canada though.

Yep. I believe I got like a 20 year old being used for multiple things on it and it still works fine.

If he's been using it for 15 years then he probably doesn't live in an area with heavy lightning or has been relatively lucky. Otherwise I would not recommend this advice to other people. If you're connecting a $1000+ product to a surge protector, wouldn't you want it to be protected from a gnarly hit? Not to mention that worst comes to worse the product would be insured up to 50k. Which isn't typically an option with a no-brand surge.

I don't even use surge protectors, never have never will.

There's a better chance of TC dying in a car crash today then his product getting fried.

I agree with this.
