Looking to go big on a new GPU. Is the 290X worth it?

Was looking at this since it brings Battlefield 4 which im gonna get anyway.

Is the 290X worth it at that price or is there a cheaper/better card or a bit more expansive one that is better?

Not worth it at the currently inflated prices and not worth it for reference models.

No, for that much you should get a 780.

the R9 290x is better than the 780. the 780 Ti is more comparable but in that instance the 780 Ti wins across the board in performance over the 290x but the added price for the 780 Ti for a additional 2-4 frames in some games and with Mantle coming soon which is supposed to boost performance for AMD prioritized games.... it's a toss up. I would pick the 290x if I was you.

wait for non reference if you want the 290X. All of them will be better than the reference. The only one that is available at the moment is the Gigabyte Windforce R9 290X but it's $699.99 ($649.99 if you use master pass (offer only good for 12/21/2013) and shoprunner)

while a good card you will get a little more performance per price with the 780Ti

it's up to you. Stay away from the reference 290X cards

The ref 780 ti overclocks period lol. The ref 290x has trouble keeping clocks in its normal parameters.
