ugh, I hate taxes on computer parts

Everything is fine and dandy at the start, managed to get a computer around 1400 which is at the high end of my budget.....and then I forget about Canadian Provincial Taxes lol

ends up being 1582. Looks like I'm going to not get the computer running for at least next paycheck. The only saving grace to this would be if a couple of those parts in question ended up being on sale for 20-30 dollars cheaper than they currently are.

and this is without a hard-drive, optical drive(both of which i'm reusing from my current machine), and monitor/keyboard/mouse.

heres hoping that I somehow get some money for X-Mas to get everything I need.

Jeese, over 10% sales tax? And tax on stuff ordered online? I might have nightmares about that tonight.

13 percent goods and sales tax in the province where I live, trust me, it isn't fun whatsoever. Tis why I have to avoid Newegg at all costs. Not only do they have shipping fees, but they also have border fees as well as sales tax.

you can probably cut down quite a lot of that build, 1400 is pretty high.

That is the only advantage to VAT, you don't have to remember to add tax.

That's nothing, in the UK we have 20% VAT.

I suffer that all the time that I almost forgot that I do. Dang import taxes.

I'm in Canada too; technically, you should only be charged GST if you're purchasing your parts online. I recently built a PC with parts from both NCIX and Newegg and both retailers only charged me GST. Keep in mind I'm in Quebec--aka tax hell (implying if anyone were to get screwed it would be us).
