Baldur's Gate - A Confessional

#1Kamek_the_GreatPosted 12/24/2013 10:27:55 AM
Forgive me PC Board, for I have sinned. I have never played either of the Baldur's Gate games. I have them on my GoG account, but I haven't got around to playing them.

With that being said, should I download the games off of GoG and absolve myself of this stain on my gaming record, or are the Enhanced Editions the way to go? I have no issues with old graphics, so if the Enhanced Editions are just the same games a new coat of paint, GoG will be the way to go.

What should I do?

I've heard enough wrongs about the Enhanced to never recommend them, even after the fixes.

That said, if you're going to play BG1 first (and you should), you really have to get the BGTutu mod (or Trilogy mod, but I think that one is terrible, always had tons of glitches with it).

If you don't know, thats to play BG1 in the BG2 engine, and frankly I can't stand playing without the improvements. You can also then use widescreen mods, if nothing else.

I think there was a better place than GoG where you could get all D&D games for a cheap price. Someone else might be of help here.

Well, its actually EasyTutu I guess, thats what I always used anyway. The point of EasyTutu being to make it easier on yourself, its pretty straightforward.

What you do is install both BG1 and BG2 fully (expansions & patched), then run EasyTutu, and there's pretty much nothing else for you to do. However, you generally want to install Degreenifier right away to fix the green water bug with 3D acceleration (that is also on the easytutu page).

Buy the Enhanced Editions.

Most of the people condemning them have no ****ing clue what they're talking about. Jake-SF is unique in that he, at least, admits that he has no ****ing clue.

I've never actually beaten the first one and I always play the second one as a goody two shoes. What's an evil choice? Who the hell is Korgan? etc. I'm cool.

Don't worry I solved both games when they were brand new and they're two of the most overrated games ever.

DRM-free and for $5. And you get more than just BG to boot.

Someone who "solves" RPGs really isn't qualified to voice an opinion.
