How much money did you spend on your first PC you built?

$640ish for everything but an HDD and a monitor, but I didn't end up using the OS until I got an HDD ($80 2 TB drive) with a pair of quieter case fans about 4 months later, then I dropped another $150 on a monitor a month after that.

I was always good at gathering random parts, so I've built a half dozen computers for free. The first computer that I ordered and built brand new cost me around 800 bucks. Since then I've spent another 500-600 bucks on it.

Around $3000 in 1988. 286 processor, 640k ram and a 20 megabyte HDD. 16 color EGA monitor.
5.25 inch floppy drive and a 2400 baud modem. The thing was a beast at the time.

First PC I built was the one I'm using right now. 1700 overall, although I'm still waiting on my R9 290x

A bit stupid to mess around with my first PC I built, but hell, my Cert 4 in IT has to be of use somewhere.

Edit: That's minus my 27 inch monitor, got that for Christmas.

When I built my first build, I already had a decent monitor and peripherals that I purchased while using the prebuilt machine.

When I actually got my first build, I only purchased the tower (and its components) and the OS which came to just under $700 in 2009.

If you include the peripherals and monitor I already had, it probably came out to around $1,000.

I still use the same build. Since then, the only upgrades I have purchased were a new monitor, mouse, and headset.

$1500 back in 06.

It had enough power to make Vista at least semi functional.
