Baldur's Gate 1 Enhanced Edition any good?

I enjoy open world games with lots of exploration. I also like random events that happen along the way such as helping random NPCs, stocking up for food to survive, camping for the night, etc. or events like those from the Oregon Trail.

Yes, it's very good. Not at the "classic" level of its sequel, but still very good.

But it's an isometric CRPG. It's not a survival game and it's not like Oregon Trail. It's an open world tactical combat game with a narrative focus and emphasis on sidequesting.

It's Dungeons and Dragons. If you like that, you'll like this.

The original is much better, but I guess it's not on Steam. Can get it on GOG though.

this is the best deal you'll probably ever get for all of these games, which are each in their own right worth more than $5. you can get free mods that will allow you to play an experience similar to what the updates for the enhanced editions do

No it's not. The only advantage the originals have over the EE versions is that they can be had for (quite a bit) cheaper.

The available mods make the original way better than the Enhanced edition

Nearly all of which are already ported, while the remaining ones are in the process.

Here's a list of compatible mods for BG2EE.

There's like five that don't yet work.

There's only one big mod that doesn't work, and that's NPC Project. It's being worked on.

And is really overrated IMHO.

The EEs are hands-down superior to the original versions. The only reason not to get the EEs is to save some money.
