Rage worth getting?

I enjoyed the Fallout series if that counts.

Slightly similar settings, but rage is linear. It was a fun shooter if that matters. But its a shooter and not a RPG shooter.

No. It's not very good.

Yes, it's a great shooter. The world and it's inhabitants lack character and soul because it's an id game, but as a shooter, it's incredibly smooth and responsive.

By "enjoyed the fallout series" you mean Fallout 3 and New Vegas don't you?

Worth getting? Surely.
Can the money be better spent? Absolutely.

Fun game with some neat ideas, but the lack of character or a good story really started to make it drag on towards the end.

As for the open world..ness... not really. Small open areas you can drive through while going to the next linear level where you'll complete a mission, then come back once or twice to do some sidequest(if you're lucky, with some differences in the path you take).
All that hype with enemy reactions is well deserved though. They will roll about, sidestep if you're aiming a careful headshot, jump and be pretty erratic. That is, until they get into cover and act like every other FPS: peek-boom. Really felt that what enemies had in movement and inertia, the weapons lacked in punch though. I swear to god that shotgun has no kick at all.
There's some cool inventions though, and you can feel the power creep once you start to make and use more of them: sentry bots, turrets, electro-bolts... you can get pretty gimmicky during fights. Which is all the more shame when some weapons bring standard "this is regular boolet, this is boolet against armor"

Also... horrible ending. But everyone knows that.

The cover part reminded me of Call of Juarez. I just started playing it last night but the shootouts seem so boring with every single NPC ducked behind cover waiting for you to pop out. And I think they even respawn if you don't advance but I'm not sure on that one. For some reason it really took me out of the game which is weird because IRL people would surely be ducking behind cover but eh..idk made it seem so boring. Like shooting at ducks. The art direction and style is nice though.
