Games using physics and animations together?

#1jelly2008Posted 12/29/2013 9:00:27 AM
I mean, games in which characters don't ragdoll, but play an animation before being physics-driven. Such as a character being thrown over a railing or being hurled onto a wall.

Ragdolls used to be interesting, but now their novelty's worn off for me. It's pretty odd to see characters fall limply at once. Any games that make use of physics-driven animations?

I think even the good not-so old FUS RO DAH does that. Before that, actually Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas, if you do an overkill, the extra damage beyond kill usually used to calculate how much the body fly further.

The later Call of Duty's do that when you die.

Full ragdoll have for a long time been nothing but the lazy town of death animation. Don't want to bother? Just make ragdolls. With a push, its decent enough, but its still such a far cry from games like Turok 2. Yes, occasional ragdolls death and the overall physic is good, but I miss the ridiculous and memorable ways enemies would die. Feels more satisfying after all.

You should check out Max Payne 3 TC. Best enemy deaths I've experienced to date.

Every Rockstar game made last generation friend.

No one can beat their physics with the euphoria engine.

It just hasn't been done yet and won't by anyone else for a while. I mean, since GTAIV the peds have tried to catch themselves and create animations on the fly.

It's a shame they die so fast with GTAV as that little detail killed my replay value..

Hmmm. Yeah, I'll check out Max Payne 3. And ragdolls don't appeal to me cuz it feels that characters have no muscle or weight

It's a shame they killed how far you fly off of your street bike going 150mph. You go twenty feet max and the bike will go 1000 yards. Like what the f*** Rockstar? Flying off of your bike and jumping out of cars was the most fun part about GTAIV. And also I hate how they cut away from your dead body so fast when you die in GTAV. meh, boring game was boring. could only keep me interested for as long as the story lasted.

Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter has great death animations that merge right into some good ragdoll physics.
