Looking for point and click mystery games. Suggestion?

#1elusivePosted 12/30/2013 12:23:25 PM
Already in the collection are the Myst series, Agatha Christie based games and Sherlock Holmes games. I know this probably is not a very popular genre but any suggestions would be appreciated. I'm already looking at The Raven: Legacy of a Master Thief to try is that on par?

Are point and click adventure games, IE things like Monkey Island, acceptable?

If so, the Blackwell series and Gemini Rue are supposed to be good. You can actually get Gemini Rue for a dollar in the current Humble Bundle.

Gone Home

The mystery in this case would be "Why did I buy this" and then an hour later maybe "Why am I still playing this".

Not sure, they are for an older couple (60s) that like playing slower paced intelligent games in the evenings. Any suggestions are welcome, they could not find much on their own so any help is appreciated. I will check out any titles you guys can suggest and run it by them before I purchase their gifts :)

In that case completely avoid gone home. For one thing it's short (2-3 hours long), for another thing there isn't much "intelligent" stuff to it (click on everything, listen to narration, move to the next room), and lastly, it's probably not going to appeal to a couple in their 60's.

Having played the first hour or so of the Blackwell Deception, I can recommend Wadjet's stuff. Even for a non enthusiast of the genre like me, the writing makes it very interesting.

Don't listen to this guy. Gone Home has won a multitude of awards, including some game of the years. It isn't everyone's cup of tea, and $20 bucks IS asking too much for it, but you can get it right now on Steam for $9.99 and it was $6.24 a few days ago. I could see it going down that price again on the final day of sales.

Midnight Mysteries? I generally hear good things about games made by Mumbo Jumbo.

Not all their games fit but some do so take a look I guess.

The Dark Fall series is described as Myst like, or at least the first game is, I got the 3rd at some point but never played it. You ever had that happen, where you get a game but for the life of you can't remember from where?

Chances are you can also find them outside Steam.
