I still have all of my old build packaging from when I built my gaming PC in 2011. I was wondering if its okay to throw them away now.

I'd save them for at least as long as the warranty lasts since some of the time they won't even accept the RMA if it's not in the original package with all the stuff.

Not till after the warranty RMA period is up generally. That's on major components mind you. No real point in keeping your ram and heatsink boxes and such

If I kept every box from every part I bought I'd have enough to build a cardboard mansion. In the recycling bin they go.

I always keep all of my boxes. My parents and friends think I am crazy for doing it. I keep them from collector's editions of games, LEGOs, PC parts, car parts, etc.

I keep them for as long as I keep the parts.

This. Even though the parts will probably be cheap by the time I sell them off or whatever, they'll be slightly less cheap by having the packaging.

The only things I ever throw away packaging for are items less than $30 in value, or the packaging just sucks and/or doesn't allow for putting the part back in easily.

I bet most people on here don't even know when their RMA period expires.

From reading the subject I was sure this poll was going to be about compiling software.
