Yes, but I can almost guarantee that:

1.) Said laptop cost 2-3x as much as equivalent hardware in a desktop

2.) Weighs 12-15+ lbs hurting the portability aspect of a laptop

3.) Because of heat generation, close proximity of components on motherboard and less airflow if the laptop is used regularly it won't have nearly as long of a useful life as a desktop.

If you travel a lot and absolutely need the portable power, more power to you, but if you're mostly using your machine around the house/simply need a basic laptop for taking notes etc. a gaming laptop doesn't make much sense.

I think it's better to have a really good desktop and have a cheap laptop on the side instead of just buying an alright gaming laptop. You shouldn't have gaming capabilities on your laptop especially if you need to focus on school, Indie and small games are all you need there and you don't need a gaming laptop for them.

eh my i5 ultrabook with a gt635m is my gaming laptop. doesnt max newer games but plays most games better then ps3/360 which is good enough for me. dont need to play games maxed out to have fun
