Should I have gotten a bigger HDD than 1 TB?

I'm already a year in on my gaming rig and I'm using nearly half the space. Most of it is stuff from Steam. I'm not sure if I'll have a bad time in the future. Video games are huge files.

Doesn't really matter. Unless you bought a small form factor computer case you can always just buy another HDD if you don't feel like cleaning out your game installs. A recent Steam patch also added support for installing games on alternate drives so you don't even have to mess with something like Steam Mover.

It took you a year to fill up 500 GB?

More like 300-400 GB. Basically Steam stuff, other PC games, retro console stuff.

i think that's enough tho.

i have a hard time filling mine since i clean up all the useless clutter in my pc. and i uninstall games right after completing them.

and to think i only have 2 160 GB of HD, and it's not SSD.
lol

How many of those 400GB's of games do you actively play though? No sense in having your whole library installed honestly.

ADD, no. Where is the thread for Fallout OCD players?

Except it doesn't. Steam lets you install libraries on alternate drives, not individual games, which means that if you already have a predefined directory structure and you want your Steam games to fit into it you need Steam Mover.

Unless Steam increased the number of libraries you can have it has an internal limit on them (six or so in my case) past which you cannot create more of them. This in turn rather severely reduces the effectiveness of installing games one to a library to hold with the aforementioned predefined directory structure.

That's not to say that this isn't great for people who have multiple drives or partitions and very limited space on their OS drive/partition (like me), but it still results in you having a solid mass of Steam games in a single location with no rhyme or reason.

You can always just add another hard drive. It literally takes only a few minutes to install. Most people at some point also add an SSD for their OS and most common programs.

Yeah, except that most things people "rip" they already own. I mean if you want a digital copy of something for free why would you go out and steal a physical copy of it just to rip it when you could download it at much less personal risk? :-D
