Random freezing out of nowhere. Help?

#1Ryyaann_Is_BandPosted 1/9/2014 1:52:12 PM
- Haven't done any major changes lately

- Comp will freeze randomly. Has frozen in-game as well as out-of-game

- Went into BIOS and selected Default settings along with doing a Memory test. Passed.

- Used a can of air to spray out any dust.

- I've reseated mostly everything in the comp

- I don't have any external ports plugged in (EHDD, etc)

- The screen will go fuzzy and freeze or I'll get a BSOD saying Windows did a Physical Memory Dump I think

What's going on and how do I fix this?

First rule of asking a question like this is to list your specs.

Also check out Event Viewer and look at the Error/Warning sections. See if there's anything in there that might give you a hint. When I had massive freezing issues before, I was getting tons and tons of ATAPI errors. For me I just needed to change the HDD's SATA cable. Maybe it'll be something simple like that for you as well.

You don't understand. Edgar is the one in the hole.

8GB RAM
i5-2500K
R9 270x

I may have figured out the culprit. I used Driver Sweeper and it detected that I still had drivers for my old card (6870) still installed so that may be why I was getting these freezes/BSODs/Phys Mem Dumps. I just don't know why its happening now and now back then when I swapped cards.

Currently reinstalling a fresh Catalyst. Will post again if I crash again.

Then you mostly get, "OMG, you need to upgrade. Your $600 PC can barely run notepad! You need this $2000 system minimum!"

Nope. Just got a BSOD telling me PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGE_AREA

Edit:
I should also add that ever since this problem started, I often have troubles getting the comp to boot. After a freeze, ai'll do a hard reset and 3 things can happen
- comp reboots successfully
- comp fan turns on but nothing happens. No beeps, nothing on monitor. Its like the fan is on and the comp is "idle" and never fully turns on
- comp turn on and turn off in a few seconds looping

Do you have integrated graphics or a different GPU to try? I would run memtest overnight just to rule out ram but I'm guessing the GPU is faulty.
