It's kotaku. Big whoop. The article is pretty good at telling you what it is and why you should care.

In the article: much ado about nothing.

It is all speculation, and generally at a worst case scenario. Do you know why ISP want to do this? Because of people like my friend who sits on bit torrent literally 24/7 pirating movies. It's all he does. He has thousands of them burned. I already have a soft cap of 250gb with my ATT. Even during Steam sales I have never gone over.

Idiots like my friend ruined it for everyone. They are not trying to stop me from playing games or watching Netflix, they want people to stop torrenting porn 24/7.

Now, having said the above, do I like what they could possibly do? Of course not. This does nothing good for me, it's all about the companies screwing me over. I can COMPLETELY understand their side, they are sick of people basically running piracy servers out of their houses.

Not American, but where would be be technologically without the U.S?

But on topic, there are so many other ISPs out there which would make it difficult for theses companies to gouge their customers in this way.

The problem is at least where I live, we only have 1 ISP that's available and it's Comcast. They have a monopoly where I live and they can charge w/e they want because we can't get another service.

The people complaining that this is just a speculative matter are as naive as they come. Comcast has yet to get a single bill of mine correct, and I'm supposed to not assume the worst from this ruling? If the ISPs have proven anything, it is that they will squeeze money out wherever they can. Combine likely outcomes with certain motivation and you would have to be a fool not to see that this is a bad thing. I'd hate to be a content provider right now.

This is a huge issue... and unfortunately it doesnt look like its going to get anywhere near as much media-firepower as sopa. Verizon and comcast are just itching to make the internet "theirs".
