Why is it that now Mech games are considered more cool?

I have loved mech and Gundam games for a long time, however from my experience people thought these were lame and would rather play something like COD. Anyway with Hawken coming out soon it seems like the same people who thought mech games were lame can barely keep their pants on. What gives?

You liked something before it was cool, just bask in that glory.

Because robots are cool.

And if you were talking to people who preferred CoD, you were talking to the wrong people.

I miss mech warrior and mech assault. NOW those were fun games, with the mech warrior before all the jumping tho.

Hawken is not a mech game. It's a first person shooter with Mech sprites.

Mechwarrior was always awesome.

I remember playing mech warrior 3 online, so much fun... :D

Remember that strategy to outfit a tiny fast mech with a lot of small laser and run around blowing peoples legs off? Basically early day noob trolling.

I could care less about that, I am just wondering why.

They're not. People always have and always will hate mechs. It belongs to a niche now and forever. Mechwarrior? Niche. Armored Core? Niche. Gundam? Niche. Even Pacific Rim, despite the praise of so many film critics didn't do as well as it was expected and it's because the mech genre belongs to a niche.

Hell, just look at what the Titan Fall devs said. The Titans "aren't mechs"? They want to distance themselves from the mech genre because mechs are lame? They're two faced **** stains. Never mind the fact that the Titans are about as generic as "Western" mechs get.
