Help me build my moms PC $800 budget.

#1psprulz2007Posted 1/23/2014 4:34:11 PM
So my mom has tasked me with building her a computer. Right now she is using an old dual core ddr2 low standard gpu type build.

She plays Second Life religiously. So the optimum performance for this game is a must. She also does some photo editing and facebook gaming. She is not exactly a pc gamer. She does not need a monitor or keyboard/mouse. Just the build and an OS. $800 is the max budget. But if we can get a build that's cheaper ill be happy.

Thanks.

I might throw together a build later. You could get away with much less than 800 for that.

Yeah 800 is ridiculously high for a PC being used in that measure.

Unless she needs a new monitor, which is something you might as well do if shes set on spending 800.

Just checked on what the requirements were on second life, and any PC you could possibly build would be enough.

My guess is you could get away with 400, maybe even mid 300 spent.

But, I would probably spend somewhere around 500, just to stay strong a bit longer in the future.

Actually this is the exact pc she has. I don't think she really needs much of anything. Outside of a decent gpu.

She just informed me of more details. She claims her processor is going out. She just wants a newer faster PC. I may need to talk her out of spending upwards of $800.

Maybe this is overkill. Choose a case of your choice and you can reuse the HDD from the HP.

She doesn't need a full desktop for those things. Consider building a NUC and attaching it to the back of her monitor.

Or you could go with the Core i5 model, but that's probably overkill:

I built this for my girlfriends mom not too long ago. She doesn't game, or have any intentions of overclocking. Just over 500$. Coming from experience, Intel HD4600 is pretty dang decent. I feel like it would have to be able to run second life. You probably don't really need a GPU. If you want to spend the extra money anyway you could get one though. Also you should put an SSD in it.
