So my friend's copy of Battlefield 3 doesn't work

He goes into Battlelog, picks a server and launches the game. It goes to the loading screen (for example, 'Kharg Island is now loading' screen), then it will say that the game has stopped working.

It wasn't working on Windows 8.1, the motherboard and HDD in his laptop fried and he reinstalled 8.1, still didn't work, went back to Windows 8, and it still doesn't work. So two OS reinstalls and still does the same thing.

He has a Lenovo Y500 with the single 750M 2 GB, i7-3630QM, and 8 gigs of ram. It's up to date driverwise.

Here are the usual fixes.

Compatibility Mode to Windows XP or 7.
Run as Admin
Reinstall

Fixed Mirrors Edge for me.

I'd play more MMOs if there was no chat.

Did you try reinstalling the game from scratch? Copy and paste with Origin doesn't always work.

did you recently update a driver or something that may NOW be causing problems, sometimes it seems driver updates do more harm than good

Aww, that's f***ing s***ty, I wanted to backup BF3 so I never have to DL those ~30 gigs again

Wait, doesn't Origin have a file validation thing like Steam does? That might work, TC.

The only real update was the plugin for Battlelog, before his mobo fried. After that and it got fixed, everything was updated to the latest drivers.

Yes, it was reinstalled once before the computer broke, then reinstalled again on each OS iteration.
