I'm only getting 10-20 dl on wireless, when I'm supposed to get 35...

Right now I'm only getting 10.0 Mbps download. When I do have a wired connection I do get 35. Is something wrong with my router? The connection bar is usually full or at 4/5. It's tough because my router is located on the ground level, and I have computers upstairs and in the basement.

Router experts, I need you. Is it time for a new router?

It might be time to fiddle with your router config first.

No. Wireless is half duplex, Ethernet is full duplex. It's normal.

Wifi is limited in its bandwidth, I actually use it as a lazy way to throttle myself if someone else is using the internet. I can't speak for your particular router/laptop or whatever but mine (WRT54G) caps out at about at about 20Mb which is what you're saying you get so that sounds right to me. Even if your router is faster than that you'd need a laptop capable of accepting the faster wifi as well. If both of them are a few years old, and even now the BGN are still more common due to the price of AC, don't expect anything more than 20Mb, if you need more then you'll probably need to upgrade both. I've never looked into upgrading a laptop's wireless card but I'd assume an AC card would be pricy, if it's a phone or tablet I doubt there's anything you can do about it.

Ah I see, thanks for the informative posts. I wish there was someway for me to get a wired connection up here. I don't want to have a wire running up the stairs.

Is there a specific, recommended one that I should be looking for? Or are they all the same. Some are kinda pricey.
