I've been looking to update my Radeon HD 5670 for about 2 months now, and honestly I'm no closer to having any idea what to do than I did on Cyber Monday.

If there is anyone who can help me navigate this sea of competing numbers and brands, I'd appreciate it.

My specs:
Windows 7 64 bit
Processor: AMD Fx(tm)-8120 Eight Core Processor (3.1 Ghz?)
8192MB Ram
ASUS M5A78L-M LX PLUS AM3+ AMD 760G Micro ATX AMD Motherboard (PCI express x2.0)
CORSAIR CX series CX600 600W power supply
Rosewill DESTROYER Black Gaming ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

I'd say around the $200 mark is my target, but I honestly don't know what I'm doing.

I was looking at the two below... but I don't know what is the right thing to do in this situation.

Any help is appreciated,
thanks

The R9 270X probably offers one of the best values at the ~$200 mark.

Out of the two you have posted, I would stick with the 270. Although there is a 270x for the same price. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814103248

R9 270X looks very promising,
I was on the MSI R9 270X GAMING 2G Radeon R9 270X when you posted.

The $700 mark for the evga is a bit steep for me. :(

but I saw EVGA 02G-P4-3063-KR GeForce GTX 660 2GB 192-bit for around the $200 mark as well...

dear god I don't know what I'm looking at -_-

Thanks for the help so far ya'll

270x is a great card at that price point. If you can spare a little bit more, a GTX 760 is another option to consider. It's $50 more but gives you better performance per dollar.

GTX 760 looks ok as well.

How should I go about making the decision between these 2 levels of cards?

(in all honestly, I have the money for either but I figure I'll upgrade again in a year or 2 when "Star Citizen" comes out and I'd like to be on par then)

Well the nice thing about nVidia GPUs is that they have a built-in DVR (ShadowPlay), so if you want an easy way to record and stream your game sessions without impacting FPS there's that.

AMD GPUs have Mantle, which right now doesn't do much other than improve FPS in BF4. But it does look at least somewhat promising to me.
