2K or 4K at this point

4K is not as hard to run as people think. It's just that most of the benchmarks are running 4-8x MSAA, which is totally unnecessary. Native 4K + a good post process AA are more than enough for good image quality.

I'm finding it hard to justify even 1440p.

I'd vote for 2560x1440. 4K is still young so I'd wait until you can get a 60Hz IPS monitor and we have video cards better suited for it.

1440p is a good enough jump, though I'm fine with 1080p for awhile.

Oh right, one not-really-thought about thing regarding 4K monitors: they'll be god awful to use with Windows due to MS being terrible at understanding DPI scaling.

This is especially troublesome for me because I'm legally blind and have a harder time reading things.

What tv/monitor do you have though? From what I read the only 4k tvs that support hdmi 2.0 60hz are the Sony ones and you have to do a firmware upgrade. All the other monitors just do 30hz except for the real overpriced asus 32 inch 4k monitor.

IMO it isn't worth the jump to 4k until you can hit a smooth 60 fps. Not going to run 4k at 30, just doesn't seem worth it. I do like my 1440p monitor I got less than a year ago. Going to probably build a new system in 2 years with 4k in mind.

They were running 4x msaa which is NOT needed at 3840x2160. Sans AA you might get away with just 2 of them on an x79 platform.
