is it worth upgrading to windows 8.1 for gaming?

#1LiQuiDsWorDs56Posted 2/1/2014 5:42:33 PM
I've read plenty of topics a while back how it wasn't good for gaming because of compatibility issues. How is it now? I remember somewhere reading how Titanfall will only work on 8. Is there some truth to that?

I can't really say.

You didn't say what you're running now. If you're running 7, I really can't recommend 8 whatsoever. It's a turd. It will go down as one of the biggest flops ever. Rumors are that MS is already working on a new OS to be released in 2015.

If you're already running 8, I can't think of any reason not to upgrade to 8.1. I don't recall having trouble with any games except Freedom Force, which has had issues with Vista and up.

Considering Titanfall isn't even released yet, I would bet a month's salary that it will work on 8.1 at launch.

I always get confused when people say 8.1

Are you implying you're on 8? Then you might as well upgrade it's free.

Are you on 7? Then i dont think it's really worth it. i got 8 for free, and i like it, but overall i felt like i wasted an hour installing it because it's the same damn OS.

Statistically speaking, you get about 5-10% better performance in windows 8. I have no idea about 8.1 however.

I'd stick with 7.

I'm currently on 8, and upgraded to 8.1, where I had so many issues with drivers and programs suddenly crashing(specifically vlc, catalyst control center and my AMD video card). It was just a headache to deal with.

If you want shorter boot times and slight FPS improvement in games there's no reason why you shouldn't be on 8.1.

Win1.0 (1985), Win2.0 (1987), Win3.0 (1990), Win3.1 (1992), Win95 (1995), Win98 (1998), WinXP (2001), Vista (2006), Win7 (2009), Win8 (2012).

So, yeah, next version of Windows coming out in 2015 wouldn't be anything out of the ordinary and really has nothing to do with whether Windows 8 will be considered a failure or not.

I have 8.1 and love it. It gets a lot of hate though.
Coming from 7 though? Negligible difference. But just enough to do it.
