Laptop Recommendations?

#1vernon vPosted 2/2/2014 1:37:26 PM
Hi all,

I'm looking for a laptop to get from Canada Computers (don't want to deal with shipping) and I was wondering if you guys have any good recommendations for a gaming laptop from this list.

http://www.canadacomputers.com/search_result.php?brand=0&price=1&location=0&checkVal0=0&subcat02=3&checkVal1=1&checkVal2=1&checkVal3=1&checkVal4=1&checkVal5=1&checkVal6=1&checkVal7=1&checkVal8=1&pagePos=0&keywords=&manu=0&search=1&ccid=577&cPath=710_577

Looking for:

- good value for price
- max I'd pay for is $1600
- light enough to sit on my lap for long periods of time

I'm clueless about these things and I'd really appreciate any help!

Thanks!

I don't have any good recommendations for gaming laptops, because gaming laptops haven't been invented yet.

Never put a laptop on your lap. It can burn your skin permanently.

I highly recommend a stand alone Desktop + Android Tablet.

Good value for price among gaming laptops is somewhat of a paradox, as you pay a premium to play high-end games on it. Most aren't even designed with the intention of sitting on your lap as they are desktop-replacement notebooks (IE pretty heavy), and a gaming laptop requires continuous power from an outlet to sustain any decent amount of gaming.

You'd need to let us know what kind of games you intend to play, at what kind of expected graphical quality and performance, in order for us to aid you.

Best I can suggest is the Lenovo Y510P and its variations: the SLI configuration should provide ample juice for powering last-generation (IE PS3/360/PC port) games.

It would be a bad time to buy a gaming laptop for current-gen (XBO/PS4/PC) games, as the benchmarks have just shot up and we have no real way of knowing yet what kind of PC configuration we'd truly need for current-gen gaming on a PC.

MSi and ASUS are your best brands there. Alienwares are nice but overpriced almost at the apple level. I've got an AW M17x (from early 2013) and it ran me $1500. Not bad and runs just about everything on high, but I did overpay for its performance.
