Active futuristic space battles... Well, my money is that star citizen will blow anything in existance out of the water but that's a long ways off... As far as what's available now... the only thing I can really think of is Star Conflict. --- www.SWGEMU.com....SUPPORT IT!
Multiplayer games, not really, not yet. Single player games, Freespace, Wing Commander, X-Wing/Tie Fighter, Tachyon: The Fringe, Elite. --- pon pon way way way ponpon way pon way pon pon, way way ponponpon way way pon way pon way way.
Not in space, but Warthunder is good. Stick compatible, and is recommended in the more difficult modes --- i5-4670k @ 4.3ghz | Hyper 212 EVO | GA-Z87X-UD3H | Gigabyte GTX 770 | 8gb Corsair Vengeance | HAF XM | 250gb Samsung 840 Series SSD | Rosewill Capstone 750M
TIE Fighter Starshatter: The Gathering Storm (one of the best space combat games no one talks about, and it's free now) Freespace 2 Diaspora (Free Battlestar Galactica game made from the Freespace 2 engine)
X3 can have epic space battles, and you can pilot anything from the smallest ships to the largest carriers and destroyers, but it takes awhile to get into the awesome large-scale battles and you do a lot of trading beforehand. --- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2wdw64aHYXA
There hasn't really been a decent space game with large battles recently. It is something we are crying out for. Im hopeful Star citizen will go some way.
Your best bet is older games. I highly recommend Freespace 2 with the texture pack mods which will go some way to bringing it more up to date graphically as well as adding like 2 huge additional campaigns. --- Spread Your Wings And Fly Away With Me
EVE looks like some serious s***. I've never played it but the battle reports are so much fun to read. Feels like I'm reading up on actual wars. --- 4670k | 2GB GTX 770 OC | 8GB 1600 9-9-9-24 | 120GB SSD | 1TB WD Blue | Win8.1 Pro http://i597.photobucket.com/albums/tt56/S26DG44B/PsythikViolet_Blooded.jpg
